In this program, UMass Professor and Newman Center Deacon Lucien Miller, takes us on a journey of spirituality, as we encounter the mysteries of love and the universe. Through his many journeys to the East, Deacon Miller has come to realize the sacredness of all life as he discovers humanity in the holy innocents and the poor in India and China! Deacon Miller will read from his book "The Hidden Side of the Mountain: Encounters with Wisdoms Poor and Holy," accompanied by photographs from his trips and questions from participants.

Lucien Miller attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his BA, MA, and PhD in comparative literature During graduate school he studied Chinese language and literature at Berkeley, the University of Hawaii’s East-West Center, and the Stanford Chinese language center in Taiwan. He spent six sabbaticals in Taiwan, Japan, China, Hong Kong, and India. While teaching comparative literature and Chinese at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Lucien felt called to be a Roman Catholic deacon, and he served in that capacity and as spiritual director at the Newman Catholic Student Center for thirty-five years.
