In light of COVID-19 and state guidelines, Amherst Neighbors has developed online virtual ways of gathering. We look forward to one day offering in person programs

Amherst Neighbors creates virtual social and educational opportunities by and for members, including monthly writing, gardening groups, book discussion, social justice presentations, and discussions on relevant topics.

Programs led by Amherst Neighbors are intended to entertain and educate, and include monthly coffee gatherings, a speaker series and more.

Interest Groups, started by members who want to get together around a certain interest, are listed on this website. Any member can join or start one. Some examples are: social distant hiking, biking, knitting and gardening.

Partial and Temporary Suspension of SOME in-person services as of January 2022
Due to the rising COVID infection rates in our community and to protect the health and safety of Amherst Neighbors members and volunteers, we are partially and temporarily suspending some of our in-person volunteer services. Where we continue to offer services, we are asking both members and volunteers to take additional safety measures to protect one another.
If you have any questions about our volunteer services, please be in touch at 413-248-7481. While we are pausing most of our in-person services, we also want to problem solve creatively.

Rest assured that we will reassess as time goes on and re-open all services as soon as we can.

1. Pause/ Temporary Suspension of all Inside/ In Home Services
2. Current Available Services:
     - Rides to medical appointments with enhanced safety measures
     - Anything outdoors such as social walks, errands for members, or small outdoor tasks
     - Shopping FOR a member
     - Friendly calls in place of visits
     - Welcome Visits: will be done as Welcome Calls
3. Enhanced Safety Measures for medical appointment rides:
     - Drivers and members to wear KN95 or N95 masks. While these are available commercially, Amherst Neighbors has a small supply. Please inquire if needed.
     - Drivers will be provided with face shields to wear in addition to masks.
     - Member receiving ride sits in the back seat.
     - Car window opened a crack
4. We encourage all members and volunteers to get tested for COVID-19 regularly. PCR tests can be done easily through UMASS. See link below. In addition, rapid tests that are commercially available are useful and reassuring just prior to any indoor interactions with people not in your own household.
5. Amherst Neighbors recommends that all members get booster shoots.
