What is this?
In June, 2021 following months of grassroots activism in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, the Town of Amherst became the second municipality in the country to commit to reparations for its Black residents. Join members of Amherst’s African Heritage Reparation Assembly to learn about their work, the history of reparations in the US, and how you can get involved in this historical movement.
Join us while Amherst Neighbors find out what it is, what it isn't, and how the program might be implemented. Representatives from the African Heritage Reparations Assembly will present on this topic and field questions.
Presenters are Michele Miller (Co-founder of Reparations for Amherst), Kathleen Anderson (Co-Chair of New England N'COBRA, National Coalition of Blacks for Reparation), and Dr. Amilcar Shabazz (President of National Council for Black Studies). They have been on the forefront of leading the fight for reparations for the descendants of enslaved African Americans living in Amherst, in Massachusetts and in other slave holding states in the USA.
